GRIM - AMATERASU

this is an EP by the infinitely awesome GRIM. this EP is very much like the full length album Folk Music, so for those who have heard that you should know what to expect: tribal+ militaristic drumming over feedback and guttural power electronics barking.

the three tracks presented here are some of my favorites from this project. track one and three are loud, rolling power electronics death marches, with ear-splitting feedback and militaristic percussion. track two (the title track), however, is a strangely beautiful ambient track. it sounds like a morgue. most fascinating here is the very subtle chanting that can be heard swimming under the track. you really have to focus to hear it, but it's quite lovely (even konagaya's ridiculous belching sounds are enthralling once you get used to them).

1. NOBLE FOLK
2. AMATERASU
3. YONPAKUGAN

État Brût - GÉOMÉTRIE D'UN ASSASSINAT

Géométrie D'Un Assassinat is an album by belgian industrial act État Brût. this band played a very distorted form of ambient industrial in the style of S·CORE or White Hospital; very slow, meandering music, with underlying themes of mental retardation, strangulation, and murky claustrophobia. i always feel so disoriented when i'm listening to anything by this brilliant band.

most certainly check it out if you liked Dross.

石川忠 - TETSUO OST

TETSUO is a compilation by 石川忠. it is made up of tracks from the soundtracks that he did for the first two Tetsuo movies by the brilliant 塚本晋也. one of the most incredible parts about those two films was the pounding post-industrial beats and roaring synths. as the protagonist transforms and mutates into a monster of iron, tubing, and wires, the music builds and crashes down, builds and crashes down, repeat. it almost feels like a music video once or twice throughout the film.

this is one of my all time favorite soundtracks. it should not be passed up.

1. Megatron
2. The Sixth Tooth
3. Rana-Porosa Porosa I
4. Mausoleum

Dissecting Table - BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH

Dissecting Table is a superb industrial/power electronics act by Ichiro Tsuji. his music is kinda like Contagious Orgasm's evil brother; still the same weird sound sampling, but now with grindcore vocals and a focus on pain and suffering.

my favorite track is the pounding "Dark Side Of Life". the roaring vocals and relentless beat on this track are flooring.

1. From Life To Death
2. Road To Death
3. Desperate Situation
4. Death March
5. Murder Music
6. Dark Side Of Life

1955 - 2010

Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson died yesterday, in his sleep, at the age of 55. cosey fanni tutti and chris carter insist that he died peacefully, in their statement about his death. he died in bangkok, hopefully in the arms of a lovely thai boy. for now, he joins jhonn in the grave.

i share with you now what i believe to be his seminal work with COIL: Summer Solstice: Bee Stings. though Ape Of Naples is usually considered their seminal work, i have always had a preference for Bee Stings due to it's far more melancholic tone. the distorted guitars and droning synths on this album, accompanied by jhonn's low, mourning voice, is absolutely crushing. the best track, by far, is the opening, "Bee Stings". it almost sounds like a Legendary Pink Dots track.

1. Bee Stings
2. Glowworms/Waveforms
3. Summer Substructures
4. A Warning From the Sun (For Fritz)
